Heating With Wood And Sharpening A Chain Saw

If you are going to heat with wood, you simply must learn how to sharpen a chain saw. I suppose that you could just buy all of your wood, have it delivered and never need to even own a chainsaw, much less sharpen it, but most people eventually will want to have their own saw.
It does take some practice to do this right, but, if somebody is truly interested, the skill required can be quickly learned. Once you understand how the teeth are supposed to look after filing or grinding, it becomes much easier.
One way to know is to simply look at a new chain and try to imitate it. You kit that contains the file and file guide will have some general instructions that can get you pointed in the right direction. If you can visualize how it should look, you will be able to make it look right. if you just fumble along and take little care in what you are doing, the results will be very poor.
Besides the file and file guide, you will need a pair of gloves and some way to securely hold the chain saw while you work on it. If you are out in the woods you won't be having a vise, so you need to improvise and come up with some way of holding the saw. This is important because the job will go much easier and the results will be much better. Sharpening a chainsaw takes practice, but, if you pay attention, you can easily master this useful skill.
